Volkswagen is caught in a racist scandal
Volkswagen has removed an ad for a Golf car posted on its official Instagram page as the company deemed the video racist and offensive by announcing an internal investigation.
The automaker, which has already faced reputational scandals in the past five years, has said it will not tolerate any form of racism..
In a scandalous ad, huge white hands control a black man who stands next to the model’s new yellow car «Golf». All this takes place in front of a cafe called «Petit colon», in which users saw colonial subtext.
German television noted that the hand could be interpreted as a gesture «white supremacy» (White power), while the letters that appear on the screen at the end of an ad may be perceived as a racist insult.
